Build 920: My old defined Keyboard Shortcuts couldn't be used with english.lng

#1 Post by tedpan » 25.12.2024, 23:10

Hello!

Using FreeCommander XE 2025 Build 920 32-bit public, portable mode, english.lng. Win 10 64 bit LTSC.

Tested in default settings and without plugins.

The keyboard shortcuts are displaying in different language, not English.

Image

And it made my old defined shortcut keys not work anymore. As the content in "FreeCommander.shc" need to be modified.
  • Code: Select all

    actDirGoToEdit=Ctrl+L
    This config worked with build 901-ENG ("Edit path" default is ALT + G)
  • But it not worked with build 920-ENG. Only worked when I assigned the keyboard shortcuts again. Below is the new content from "FreeCommander.shc" for the same CTRL + L

    Code: Select all

    actDirGoToEdit=Strg+L
Relating (most likely) to this bug: Right click context menu of the address bar is in two languages

Thanks and best regards,

Partly confirmed.

Shortcuts in menu and in Shortcuts dialog are in German language.

Anyway, old and new shortcuts work good here.

Another issue, some shortcuts are broken, changed, 2 or 3 shortcuts are the same, not sure if it's related to the same issue.

FreeCommander XE 2025 Build 920 32-bit public portable English, Windows 10 22H2 64-bit English.

BTW FreeCommander XE 2025 Build 920 64-bit donor portable English doesn't have any of the above issues.

Confirmed!

I updated from 861 to 920 (Portable)

My FreeCommander is in English but in the shortcut dialog the shortcuts are in german (like the screenshot posted by the OP)
And the shortcuts are totally different from my previous setup.

The content of FreeCommander.shc is the same what in my 861 but the shortcuts in 920 are changed.

Thanks!

Hi,

Glad someone reported this. Same here, had to revert back to previous good build 901.

My configuration: FreeCommander XE 2025 Build 920 32-bit public English, Windows 11 24H2 64-bit English.

In my case, I had replaced few default keyboard shortcuts (all appearing in german language now) but the new release 920 doesnot let me delete default and replace it with custom shortcut. Even if I attempt to acheive desired result in multiple attempts i.e. first delete default then add new shortcut, upon restart both shortkeys (default and custom) appear without conflict but default triggers which doesnot help my case.

Thanks @Marek for the new build but I am still not able to assign new custom keyboard shortcuts or change default ones. Restarting FC is losing all keyboard shortcuts changed.

No such problem here.
Please check the content of the FreeCommander.shc file after you have made changes to shortcuts.
Under Help->About you can find the folder for the settings. The folder must be writeable.

Hi @Merek,

A quick update! For some reason my .shc file had multiple ShortCuts sections and plenty of duplicates within them. I cleared the file contents and saved my custom shortcuts again and this time, it worked like a charm.

Please conside this issue closed.

Thanks again for this awesomely amazing application. 👍👏🙏

Dear Marek, dear All,

I am coming across a strange behavior with FreeCommander context menu and key shortcuts.

When I boot my computer and launch FreeCommander, every runs flawlessly meaning:
  • When I right click on a file/folder in the list view, the Windows context menu displays properly (as if I pressed Shift+F10)
  • All shortcuts work well including Shift+F3 (External viewer) which is set to Vim or Code-Genie.
After some minutes and I haven't figured out why:
  • When I right click on a file/folder in the list view, the Windows context menu does not display anymore ; the right-click still works well in FreeCommander Tree pane and in Windows native file explorer
  • Not all FreeCommander shortcuts work properly e.g. Shift+F3 does not produce any effect (may the External viewer be Vim or Code-Genie)
I am lost. Would you have an idea about what's happening?

- Operating system: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, lang FR
- FreeCommander: FreeCommander XE build 921

Thanks in advance and Happy New Year.

Please check the Settings - View - File/folder list - Mouse shortcuts - Click with right mouse button. It should be empty for showing context menu. Possibly you click to different place when it's not working. To test it just click to empty space, file icon, file name, file extension.

Still it could be another issue/bug, please provide more info, or steps to reproduce, if possible.

Happy new year!

Hi Dreamer and thank you for your answer.
Dreamer wrote: 31.12.2024, 23:36Please check the Settings - View - File/folder list - Mouse shortcuts - Click with right mouse button. It should be empty for showing context menu.
I do confirm: everything is empty in the "Click with right mouse button" area and should therefore indeed display the context menu, but it does not.
If, for test purposes, I change "Click position > File: name" to "Function: open with internal viewer", this works well (jpg files are well displayed within the internal viewer when right-clicking the filename).
Dreamer wrote: 31.12.2024, 23:36Possibly you click to different place when it's not working. To test it just click to empty space, file icon, file name, file extension.
If I reset the "Click with right mouse button" to 'all empty', I may right-click on any part of the file/folder list (icon, filename, size, modified) : nothing happens. If I right-click further to the right (after the 'modified' field) then I see an 'ad-hoc' context menu starting with "History back" and finishing with "Properties".

I still do not understand the issue. If you want me to perform other tests, please do not hesitate to tell me which ones.

If it may help, my FreeCommander.shc file looks like:

Code: Select all

[ShortCuts]
actFileMoveDlg=0
actDirCreate=F8
actHelpIndex=F1
[ShortCuts2]
actFileCreateNewFile=F6
Also, if it may help :
  • I encounter exactly the same behaviour with builds 900, 901, 920 as with 921: "Click with right mouse button" area empty and right-clicking not working.
  • I mentioned earlier that the unexpected behaviour starts after a "few minutes". I performed additional tests and the behaviour is now perfectly reproducible : I boot my computer, launch freecommander, when I first right-click on a file/folder the context menu appears (ok) but the second time I right-click on a file/folder, nothing happens anymore and so forth and so on.

Context menu display is done in the 32 bit version with an external program FcContextMenu64.exe.
Your antivirus program may be blocking further calls to FcContextMenu64.exe.
Try defining an exception for this program in your antivirus.

Thank you Marek.

Regarding antivirus software, I am only using the native "Windows defender" antivirus and have not noted any issue with freecommander and possible viruses.
Yet, I excluded the whole freecommander folder from any antivirus monitoring. Unfortunately, it did not fix the problem. The context menu still does not appear.

I have been using the portable version for years.
I installed build 921 from the setup zip archive in order to be sure that I was not mising any file: still the same behavior :(
