Under "Tools → Settings → View → Viewer" in the tab "Text advanced" the following settings are offered for the viewer and/or the quick viewer (in addition to the settings in the tab "Text").
These settings are applied for the:
- Viewer, if the window "Configure viewer" was opened via the "Viewer" button
- Quick viewer, if the window "Configure viewer" was opened via the "Quick viewer" button,
or if it was opened via the "Viewer" button and the setting "Use same settings for viewer and quick viewer" is checked.
This setting specifies the number of characters for the width of text. A line break is inserted after this number of characters.
This setting specifies the number of characters for the width of binary text. A line break is inserted after this number of characters.
If this setting is checked, the binary text width is automatically adjusted to the width of the viewer window.
This setting specifies the number of characters for the width of hexadecimal text. A line break is inserted after this number of characters.
If this setting is checked, the hexadecimal text width is automatically adjusted to the width of the viewer window.
This setting specifies the number of characters for the width of Unicode text. A line break is inserted after this number of characters.
If the text contains tabs, they will be shown as the number of spaces specified here.
Auto-reload on changing
If this setting is checked and the displayed file has been changed externally, the viewer's display is updated automatically.
Beep on changing
If this setting is checked and the displayed file has been changed externally, a beep indicates the change.
Follow tail after reload
If this setting is checked and the displayed file has been changed externally, the end of the file is displayed automatically (changes are usually carried out at the end of a file).
Show dialog after last search match
If this setting is checked, the dialog "Search match not found - Restart search from the beginning of the file? - Yes No" is shown after the last search match.
The viewer menu item "Edit → Find" or the hotkey "Ctrl+F" open a "search bar" at the bottom of the viewer window. After entering a search string in the edit field, the search is started. All matches are highlighted. The arrow keys "↑" and "↓" scroll from match to match. If an arrow key is activated and no (further) match is found, the search bar is highlighted. If this setting is checked, the dialog is shown as well.
Gutter
Show gutter
If this setting is checked, a colored column is shown at the left border of the viewer for line numbers.
Show line numbers on gutter
If this setting and "Show gutter" are checked, line numbers are shown on the gutter.
Line number font
If the settings "Show gutter" and "Show line numbers on gutter" are checked, the font for line numbers can be defined (after clicking the "Font" button).
Line numbers only for the first ... KB of file
If the settings "Show gutter" and "Show line numbers on gutter" are checked, this setting specifies that line numbers are shown only for the first so many KB, as entered here. This value affects the time required for opening files.
If the settings "Show gutter" and "Show line numbers on gutter" are checked, this setting specifies the maximum number of lines to be counted.
Step (1: for all lines)
If the settings "Show gutter" and "Show line numbers on gutter" are checked, this setting specifies that a number is shown only every so many lines, as entered here.
Example:
10: Only every tenth line number is shown.
Line numbers only for these file extensions
If the settings "Show gutter" and "Show line numbers on gutter" are checked, this setting specifies that line numbers are shown only if the file has one of the extensions listed here.
