Pls help with Text Editing in QuickView pane

#1 Post by granny » 14.04.2009, 07:49

After seeing this post by Dreamer, I decided to try editing in the QuickView pane.
http://forum.freecommander.com/viewtopi ... e6d9fb3646

However, I am obviously doing something very wrong. I'm feeling really stupid that I can't get this to work.

Here's what I've done:
install the Lister *.wlx plugin ( I tried both SynPlus 2.7.3, and HPG_ed plugins, one at a time.)
In the left hand pane, select my text file.
Click the QuickView icon (in top toolbar, or the one on Splitter bar.)
Right-click the "title bar" at top of QuickView pane, and change selection from "Text" to "Plugins".
Set the mode to "Editor".

Start typing. Sounds good, yes? Wrong.
I can only use the letters A, C, G, J, K. L, M, N, S, V, Y, Z.

B, H, I, O, P, R, T, U call the hot-keys on the QuickView context menu and change the "mode of the viewer pane to Binary, Hex, Image, etc.

D calls FC Folder menu dropdown.
E calls FC Edit menu dropdown.
F calls FC File menu dropdown.
W calls FC View menu dropdown.
X calls FC eXtras menu dropdown.

Please help ---- what viewing procedure or settings must I change, or what installation procedure must I follow, to make this work?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Open the Viewer (not quick view), go to menu > options > configure > shortcuts and change the keyboard shortcuts you need.

Hi Dreamer --- thanks for that, that took care of the shortcuts from the "QuickView context menu".

I'm *almost* happy now :)
How do I get rid of those other shortcuts that call the FC menu drop-down lists?

I can't find those shortcuts listed in the SynPlus viewer menu, nor in the FreeCommander Keyboard shortcuts.

Now, H calls FC Help menu dropdown.
These others still behave as before
D calls FC Folder menu dropdown.
E calls FC Edit menu dropdown.
F calls FC File menu dropdown.
W calls FC View menu dropdown.
X calls FC eXtras menu dropdown.
Hoping to hear from you....

It looks like a bug. I have the same behavior with default viewer in the quick view mode.

Well, bummer!
Also, note that the arrow keys and the Tab key take you out of the editing window and do navigational things in the FC main window.

I see folks who have posted that they edit in the QuickView pane, I wonder how they work around the loss of all those keys.

Hope this is an easy fix.

Thanks for your time and attention.

I don't see any problem with a viewer being just a viewer. If I want to edit text, I use an editor. One keystroke opens it and I have the tool I like best for that purpose.

Oh, partly "cool" factor, I suppose.

But also, I used to use another manager A43 that had an integrated text-editor pane, and it was just very convenient for keeping a running list of quick notes and reminders. Kind of like a sticky-notes right inside the file-manager interface. I miss that.
