Can I completely disable quickfilter?
Can I completely disable quickfilter?
I'm using 891 64-bit donor. I've used freecommander for years, but I was stuck on an old version. Now that I'm updated I can't search any more. I do not want to use Quick Filter, but it seems to be always there and has focus when I click on search. That tiny box is not where I want to search from...
I've played with all of the Quick Search/filter/starter options. Quick filter bar always visible is unchecked in settings, but there it is, with focus, trying to confuse me every single time.
Yes I've searched the forum for disable quick search, but I seem to be the only one who does not want it.
Also, the search box comes up VERY wide on my large monitor. Why?
I may go back to 750. It's still on one of my computers and that's how I want search to look. reasonable size box, focus where I want it.

Re: Can I completely disable quickfilter?
Don't know how you try to search.
<<< I do not want to use Quick Filter, but it seems to be always there and has focus when I click on search. >>>
Use "File → Search..." or "Ctrl+F" or a search button to open the "Search files/folders" dialog.
Quick filter is for filtering the files in the shown folder.

Re: Can I completely disable quickfilter?
Could you explain it more, please? Do you want to disable "quick filter" or "quick search"?
For Quick search you can set the timer to 1 Sec., it's just a workaround, it will be shown just for 1 second if you will search typing the name, just you have to restart FC after changing the option.
For Quick filter disable the option "Quick filter bar always visible", it will be still possible to use it with the shortcut Ctrl+Y, to enable/disable.
To change a position of both features, try the option "Show in the right panel on the left" and restart FC.

Re: Can I completely disable quickfilter?
I could put in an image, but I don't know how... I don't know how to explain it any better than I did. Yes, File-> Search (I use CTRl/F). Since the update, in the lower right hand corner of the search box is a tiny box that has focus that I understand is the quick filter. It has a little orange filter image beside it. Since it has focus, in order to do the search I want to do I have to mouse to the "File name" box at the top. I want the lower right thingy gone or at least not have focus!
Yes, CTRL/Y makes it lose focus but that is no help at all because I still have to mouse to the File Name box...
On build 750 on another computer, a lovely reasonably size box pops up with focus right where I want it so all I have to do is CTRL/F and start typing. That's all I want. What the old ones always did. I take it "quick filter" was invented after 750.
I guess my answer is to give up on the modern interface. I can't stand this. I see I can download old versions but I don't see 750. Maybe I'll install 819 and see how it works...

Re: Can I completely disable quickfilter?
I found a portable version of 819 and although the search box is even MORE huge than for 891, the focus is in the File Name box and the quick filter is dim. There must be a setting that I am missing or a problem with 891.
Re: Can I completely disable quickfilter?
I installed 845 64 bit donor on another computer and although the search box is still ridiculously large, focus is properly in the File name box rather than the quick filter box. I installed it over 891 and it did pick up my layout settings, certainly not the defaults, so it would appear it's not a settings issue. Two systems with 891 installed had this problem.
Re: Can I completely disable quickfilter?
I have found the problem.
Quick filter field is focused if the option "Activate profile tab first" is active.
Workaroud: deactivate the option.
It is already fixed for the next release.

Re: Can I completely disable quickfilter?
Sorry, where is that setting? I certainly did not set it myself (at least not on purpose)...
Re: Can I completely disable quickfilter?
Press Ctrl+F to open the Search window, in the menu click to - Options - "Activate profile tab first" to disable it.
I can reproduce it, if that option is activated with default settings, quick filter field is focused, if no profiles are created, in 891 64-bit.

Re: Can I completely disable quickfilter?
I did not have it checked. I unchecked everything in the search options, restarted the program, and the focus is still in the tiny window in the lower right hand corner. I'm downgrading. I found the donor downloads, apparently all or most versions. All I know is 819 is OK.
Re: Can I completely disable quickfilter?
853 64 bit is OK.
Re: Can I completely disable quickfilter?
I think I found a reason.
I tried to disable all options in Search menu - Options, then enabled all and from some point I could reproduce it, focus on quick filter, from that point, even if I changed any menu options, it was still broken.
Please try this:
- in the main FC windows - menu - Help - About - click to "FreeCommander data" - link below
- delete the file FreeCommander.find.ini
- press Ctrl+F

Re: Can I completely disable quickfilter?
OK, I found the broken option, you don't have to delete that file from the post above.
- press Ctrl+F to open the Search window
- in menu - Options - enable the option "Open dialog on last used position"
- press Esc
- press Ctrl+F
It should work good, tested in 891 64-bit donor, with default settings.
It's broken, if the option "Open dialog on last used position" is disabled - and/or if the option "Activate profile tab first" is enabled with no created profile.
It's a bug, moved to Bug Reports.

Re: Can I completely disable quickfilter?
Thank you! I already downgraded to 853, but others with this problem can find the thread and hence the solution.
Some products do not downgrade gracefully, but there was no problem so of course it still found my settings file (which I do have backed up).

Re: Can I completely disable quickfilter?
Fixed in 892, thanks, Marek.
