FC suddenly won't launch

I have been using FC successfully on an Asus eee1005 netbook with Win7 for about 4 months. Suddenly it will no longer launch or function. I did a full uninstall (Revo Uninstaller) and reinstalled--no luck. I tried installing on the second partition--no luck. I tried running FC as a standalone portable app from a stick--no luck. Each time the cursor shows busy, then stops and no FC appears. There is no indication that the process is running in the Task Master. BTW I am configured for Administrator/Owner with full access & privileges.

Anyone have an idea what has happened?

Hm.. really strange. Have you tried to check your antivir or/and firewall? What about any USB drive, or DVD, try to remove all such devices.

Yes, I did check the firewall and actually changed antivirus after the problem started (for other reasons), so those were eliminated. No USB drives are normally attached to this machine. I used the portable app to test the problem. So those don't seem to be the issue.

I am really puzzled.

What (if anything) have you installed since the last time you were able to use FC?
