File tips - spurious question marks!

FC 2009.02, Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 with all current updates.

I'm finding that consistently in file tips the file date / time contain spurious question marks, like this:

Date modified: ?11/?05/?2008 ??09:54

and for .jpg files it's just the same but for Date taken.

Also, for image files there is a spurious question mark before and after the dimensions, e.g.

Dimensions: ?2616x 3488?

I note also that in the latter case there appears to be no space before the 'x' but there is one after it. Presumably there is meant to be either a space either side or no space either side.

These quirks are 100% reproducible and so far haven't varied - there's thus nothing particular to do in order to reproduce them.
