#1 Post by DaComboMan » 14.06.2009, 13:59

Is it possible to preview OpenOffice .odt and WordPerfect .wpd files?

It should be, using lister plugin, more here. I found OpenOffice plugin there, but I'm not sure if any WordPerfect plugin exist. If so, it should be here.

.odt works

#3 Post by DaComboMan » 15.06.2009, 02:47

Thanks for the tip!

I took my chances and installed the .odt one within the program files section. Did the same for what looked like one with .wpd in it but it seems i copied a file over existing one. Anyway, .wpd fails to show in preview.

Usually there's a plugins section for this kind of thing.
Can't find one for FC.
Where did i go wrong?

Copy/unpack the plugin to FreeCommander\plugins folder, open FreeCommander, Viewer (F3), then open Options, Plugins tab, click the first icon "Add to list", search for *.wlx file in the plugin folder. In the "Detect string" field type ext="ODT".

I found a plugin for wpd files, but I'm not sure if it's the same as you need.

Dreamer,

If you want to p.m. me the link to download it or share it here, that would be just fine.

Thanks!

Dreamer,

The .odt preview works just fine. Can't say the same for .wpd files though.
BTW, when i click on .doc files, it opens in OpenOffice instead of preview mode.

Patience!

When you double click DOC file?? Or if you open it in viewer - F3? Do you have any plugin for DOC files installed - is it configurated correctly? Do you know how to assign a file type to plugin?

Detect string field should look like this:

EXT="ODT" | EXT="ODS" | EXT="ODP" | EXT="ODG" | EXT="ODF"

Search for listdoc.wlx in google for DOC plugin, or just DOC lister plugin.

OK and what is wrong?? For DOC try another plugin ( http://www.totalcmd.net/plugring/wordfileviewer.html ) and use this:

EXT="DOC"

It says it's already there and won't be installed.

BTW, correction to a previous post:
.doc files aren't opened in preview mode but request to be opened in WordPerfect (i don't have Word installed) and... .wpd files in preview mode don't come up very nice (full of ghiberish).

Has anyone been able to preview Wordperfect files?

#12 Post by freecicero » 04.09.2009, 13:56

I'd like to adopt FreeCommander as my main file manager, but the single issue which is holding me back is the inability to preview Wordperfect documents, of which I have thousands that I have created over the years.

I am able to do this with Novatix ExplorerPlus, as well as with Directory Opus, but so far I can't find a plugin that will work in FreeCommander for Wordperfect files (which generally have the extension .wpd; NOT to be confused with wordpad files).

Directory Opus seems to accomplish this by using the "Stellent" viewing files that are floating around the internet as part of installs from QuickView Plus, or Yahoo Search (the same as X1) but I can't figure a way to make use of those using FreeCommander.

I'm incredibly impressed with FreeCommander and would like to adopt and help promote it, but for this one stumbling block.

Can anyone help?

thanks in advance.....

Searching high and low!

Of the freeware items available i haven't found one that can deal with WordPerfect or OpenOffice at the same time in a perfect way.

Other than PowerDesk (which doesn't do OO) this is the only decent shareware i found so far that can do it:

Thanks for your comment. I have used Powerdesk too, but I switched to ExplorerPlus because it appeared to me to crash a little less often, though they appear to be basically the same program code.

It's my understanding that neither of those are still in development, however, and FreeCommander seems to do thinks that those won't, and be run by a good developer, so I'd like to move here for the future.

Maybe there's some way we can convince the developer to help us -- I can't contribute much but I'd certainly make a small Paypal contribution if that would help :-)

As per my prior post, the "viewer" technology for WP is out there (via the Stellent files, at least) so it would be a shame if we can't get this to work somehow.
