How to uncampress *.rar

I have decided to stick with WinXP.

On my previous set up of Free Commander I had a right click option to un rar and to un zip files but I can't remember how I achieved this. Can somebody please advise.

It was probably external program, WinRAR, IZArc, 7-Zip... In FreeCommander you can unpack the archive too, just enter the archive the same way as folder, select files/folders inside and press F5 to copy to other pane. Not all archive formats are supported, e.g. 7-Zip, but Zip and Rar are supported.
