Show Drop Down Arrow Only for Thumbnails icon on Splitter issue of confusion

#1 Post by Forez » 09.05.2024, 08:38

[Coming out from this discussion: https://freecommander.com/forum/viewtop ... 410#p35410]

A user can add for the Splitter the Thumbnails command and change its settings by going to its Details

But if I choose and apply the Show drop down arrow only ticket box option then nothing changes. It is only if I choose also from the Use internal popup menu bar e.g. $FcPopup_Thumbnails or lets say $FcPopup_FavoriteFolders will that icon on Splitter gain a micro arrow next to it; thus indicating ability to access under it a menu [created accordingly to that choice I made from that Use internal popup menu bar]. And then if I go back to its Details and un-tick the box for Show drop down arrow only also nothing will change. Apparently this arrow will be removed only if I also change back the Use internal popup menu option to the default blank one located at the top of its bar list. And if have some Use internal popup menu selected plus the Show drop down arrow only ticket box turned on, then reverting to blank state of the Use internal popup menu option will automatically un-tick the box

My question would be then: is this intended correct behavior? And if yes- then is it not confusing for users, if selecting / deselecting of the box option does nothing?

For me it was confusing. If an option that has a descriptive name Show drop down arrow only [and not a vague one like Show drop down arrow] suggest that I will see ONLY some sort of arrow and not an arrow added to something else [the FC icon for Thumbnails in this example of mine]. And when applying just that option does nothing, then it simply looks like a bug

This behavior was [apparently] present in an installed 32-bit build from 2021 [as at that time I did not figure out what exactly was happening] and is occurring in Build 906 64-bit Donor Portable
