Deselect when clicking on empty space and disable autosort
Deselect when clicking on empty space and disable autosort
I've been using fc for a while now and it's a great program, but there a couple of things that I miss about windows explorer that I can't seem to find options for in fc.
One is when I have a file selected and then click on an empty space of the file panel, the file remains selected. I would like it to become deselected like in explorer.
The other thing is when I copy files into the panel or rename a file, I would like the files to remain in the same sort order until I refresh the view, instead of autosorting right away.
These are just minor issues, but if these things can be done I'd like to know. Thanks!

It's working the way you want here, in both modes (NC and 'non-NC'), strange.Sheeze wrote:One is when I have a file selected and then click on an empty space of the file panel, the file remains selected. I would like it to become deselected like in explorer.
I've tried it in both modes too and what I described above still happens. I just always assumed it was the default behavior.
Is there an ini option or something that changes this behavior? Only other thing I can think of is OS, as from reading a few posts here it seems that there are some differences in how fc works between XP and Vista. I'm on XP SP3.

I am on XP SP3 as well and clicking on empty space does not completely clear the selection... the focused item remains "selected" according to the pane status bar even though it is not highlighted... if I do a copy, the focused item goes to the clipboard.
What I would like to see in the status bar when I click on empty space is the total number and total size of objects in the folder... what you see when you click on ".."

Yeah, I haven't found any way to change this behavior and it looks like no one has any solutions (or even cares
), so perhaps this could be a feature request or something?
Also, about the other issue with the auto-sort, I read a post on the forum that said the file list kept the same sort order until manually refreshed in older versions of fc, so I'm wondering if there's a way to revert back to that behavior.

autosort
Indeed, the instant autosorting feature is so anoying! If any of the two-panel commanders would have it I would instantly switch to it! TC doesn't have it, Salamander doesn't either... and neither FreeCommander
. I don't get it... there are so many people who agree that this is the "default" desirable behavior, yet no Explorer replacement supports it. What's the catch? As a solid principle: when you want to replace a default program that everyone knows, and everyone is acustomed to, with something with more features, MAKE SURE YOU SUPPORT ALL THE ORIGINAL's FEATURES. It's like backward compatibility with the user. The user is human, so the user would want to find only pluses and no minuses. I believe such a feature of NO AUTOSORTING UNTIL EXPLICITLY REFRESHING or RE-ENTERING the destination folder isn't that hard to implement, and some say it was supported in older versions ??? Maybe it was considered a bug and was fixed
).
Also, it would be nice to have more things customizable. As many as possible I'd say...
Anyway, great program! Too bad this behavior we're talking about here still maintains me among the windows explorer users
Thanks
