Editing Text Files in Right Pane

#1 Post by RT Wolf » 29.06.2008, 20:38

Hi there,

Really cool file manager here, has almost all the features i'm looking for. I've got two questions:

How can I edit text files directly in the program? I searched and found out about SynPlus, but it doesn't seem to make the side-pane editable. That was mentioned in an earlier post, but I can't post a link (perhaps links to own address should be allowed). post title was "FC praise and question" by xveegerx.

Second question: Can I add things to the Drive bar, possibly my Favourites? I need Desktop up there, as well as a Reference Folder. I use the keyboard shortcuts, but its easier if my hand's already on the mouse.

Thanks! Again, great work!

Hi RT Wolf

With respect to question 1, I know of no way to edit inside any of the windows. The best suggestion I have is to use the quick view feature (CTRL+Q). When you find a document you want to edit then press F4 (FC default editor which by the way you can change to anything you want).

With question 2, there is a two part answer.
1. Access to the desktop: This is already possible with the desktop icon on the Folder 2 (Settings->Toolbar).

2. With respect to the reference folder, I have used the Favorite Folders (Folder->Favorites) with great success.

I hope this helps

Hi RT Wolf,

with the editor-plugin "synplus" (http://totalcommander.free.fr/synplus.html) you can edit files in the preview pane and in the preview-window. I think with other editor-plugins it's the same.

Sweet, thanks!

FreeCommander is awesome. I'll be writing it up on my blog in a few days.

Another question, though: After running FreeCommander for a while, it starts to go up in memory usage. Is this a known issue or memory leak?

Thanks in advance, again.

Don't know, but please start the new topic with more info (FC version, OS...) - and read the forum rules first.
