Labels for mapped drives

#1 Post by yacoubean » 26.01.2015, 18:25

I use FreeCommander XE at work, and I have 16 mapped drives that I use on a regular basis. I don't have the drive letters memorized, so when I need to open a particular server in FreeCommander, I have to mouse hover over several drive icons (which shows the path to the server/share) before I find the server I need.

It would be very convenient if I could add a short (<10 character) label for my mapped drives. That way instead of being presented with a long list of drive letters, I could see short labels to help me identify the various servers.

I know this feature request is probably not something that most FreeCommander users would utilize, but if you build this feature, I promise to donate a some money on your donation page. 8)

I have no mapped drive, so I'm not sure how this works, but have you tried using the Favorites?

What about Settings -> Drives -> General: Show volume name?

That kind of works...again, the trouble comes down to the fact that I have so many drives. So with that option enabled, the drives spread across two rows, which isn't ideal (less screen real estate for the files view). Also, it only gives a small amount of space to display the volume name, therefore many of my volume names are truncated to the point that I can't tell which drive it is. :(

So again, giving us a way to create a short label for each drive should solve my issue.
