Hi Marek,
Love your program and thank you for continuing to develop it.
I have 2 things I would like to ask.
1. feature request. Can a tick or some other marker be placed next to File Size View so the user knows when it is active? I find myself constantly turning it off and on and never knowing when it is on.
2. Some issues.
First issue is, File Folder Size doesn't work on all folders. I have to quit the program and re-load it again to get it to show file sizes (latest Beta being used and run as administrator)
2nd issue is that FreeCommander doesn't like big directories of files.
I have a small DVR server for home security and a folder easily goes over 100k of files.
If I try to delete this directory of files, FreeCommander quits and errors.
I have another directory of .xml files only 19 k in size but over 900k of them. Again FreeCommander just dies. Windows 7x64 8GB ram.
I really do prefer your program to Windows however, I need it to work with large amount of file contents. Can this be improved at all??

Could you explain more exactly what you mean? What is "File Size View"? Mean you "Size of folders (F9)"?1. feature request. If you use Vista+, then try to use for delete operation the option "Use FreeCommander".2nd issue is that FreeCommander doesn't like big directories of files.

My apologies, yes, I meant the "Size of Folders (F9)" function. I would like to know when it is active and when it is not active by some sort of indicator next to it. I often find myself guessing on weather it is active or not. It seems to work only sometimes depending on the folder I am viewing however, I am unsure if it is active so I find myself pressing F9 a lot when I need information regarding folder size.Marek wrote:Could you explain more exactly what you mean? I do use Vista+ I am on Windows 7 x64 and I do have FreeCommander set as the file operation default program.
If I view the folder with less files inside, it works fine. I also found if I try to delete/move/copy anything over say 40 thousand files, it errors. I am able to use Windows Explorer to delete the amount of files down to say 15 thousand before FreeCommander is able to handle the copy/move/delete functions. In my Camera folder, I had over 900 thousand pictures, FreeCommander just crashed. I know it is a lot of files, it was a years worth of IP camera footage I was breaking up, trying to break up in to monthly folders.
Anyhow, I am using the 650 beta version on windows 7 x64 with 8GB RAM on AMD x64 X2 Dual core 6400+ CPU

@shades_aus "Size of Folders (F9)"
try this:
Tools --> Customize Toolbar ... -> click 'Standard' --> now add the icon 'Size of selected folders' to standard tooblar --> that's it, this icon will show you the status of 'Size of Folders (F9)'
of course be sure your standard toolbar is visible (you also can use any other toolbar for your icon)

Hi Marek, this worked however, I was trying to view a folders size on one of my drives.alf5000 wrote:@shades_aus "Size of Folders (F9)"

I had both the left window on drive C: and right window on Drive F: (separate drives)
Now, The little icon on the standard bar labelled "kb" is highlighted (thank you for that) and I know it's on and E: has most of the folders with a size next to them, except one. A folder called sorting.
Fair enough I say to myself, there are a lot of files in this directory, it is my yet to be filed area and I give it some time to read it. 5 mins actually. Now, there aren't that many files in there, I click kb icon, it it again, same thing, I load up the same E: window on the left hand side under a new tab, well, what do you know, 321GB is shown, I click the up directory on the right hand side, and then go back to the directory with "sorting" in it and, no dice, it still is not shown. I close down FreeCommander and open it up again, shows the directory size straight away, no issues.
Also, sometimes you click on the window bar to sort by name, size create, modified etc and it won't change when you click on it. Again, if you close and open again, works fine.
These same things also happen on my Windows 8 x64 computer ssd 16gb computer
All this being said, I have never deleted the program directory from revision to revision. I have just installed every beta you released over the top. Perhaps this is why I have issues. So, to rule these out, I will un-install, delete the directory and re-install as administrator and see if this helps anything. I am still using 651 by the way. I'll organise an e-mail
