File Operations FC vs. Windows
File Operations FC vs. Windows
Can someone explain to me the specific difference between using FC to file operations as opposed to Windows?
Also in FC 2009 I was able to do a rename when I copied a file to the other pane. In FC XE the copy command isn't giving me this option. Is there a way to get that back?
Thanks

Re: File Operations FC vs. Windows
I reviewed your link and I'm not seeing any additional options when I'm copying a file. FC just copys the file. FC 2009 pops up a copy dialog window. What am I doing wrong in FC XE? I have the options set to use FC for the file/folder operation.
Re: File Operations FC vs. Windows
In XE there are few new options, like:
minimize - it's possible to navigate while copying
multiple operations - it's possible to use more copy processes without freezing as in v2009
auto-minimize - just hit F5 and copying is started in background
pause - just click pause to pause/resume copying
file list - list of all files with the info about copy status and path
quick filter - filter for the file list
BTW There is also an option to rename the file, but it works weird, you have to cancel the copying, then switch tab to Copy and then you can rename the file, then click Run button.

Thanks. Yes I now see that I have to hit Esc in order to get that dialog box. If it's a small file I'll never be able to hit Esc fast enough.
Re: File Operations FC vs. Windows
Could you explain more exactly what you make (used options)?BTW There is also an option to rename the file, but it works weird, you have to cancel the copying, then switch tab to Copy and then you can rename the file, then click Run button.
I see no problems with the rename in copy dialog.
Re: File Operations FC vs. Windows
This dialog box is what I get with the standard copy command on the splitter of FC2009:

This dialog box is what I get with the standard copy command on the splitter of FCXE, however, the only way I get this box is if I cancel the copy command by hitting Esc or hitting cancel if the copy operation is taking long enough for me to select cancel:

Does this answer your question?

Re: File Operations FC vs. Windows
- Right click on splitter
- Go to "Customize toolbar..."
- On the splitter toolbar change your copy command to "Copy with dialog"
If you like the same dialog as in 2009.02b you should use "Use Windows" for copy operations (Settings - File/folder operations).

Re: File Operations FC vs. Windows
Perfect!! Thank you so much for your help!!
Re: File Operations FC vs. Windows
I'm using auto minimize option, therefore the path field is geyed out, because the copying is in progress already, so it's the correct behavior, I didn't know it's OK if not using auto-minimize option.Marek wrote:Could you explain more exactly what you make (used options)?

Re: File Operations FC vs. Windows
OK, I'm still trying to figure this out. FCXE has separate copy/move and copy/move with dialog functions as opposed to FC2009b. It also has Use Windows and Use FreeCommander as settings. What's the difference between FC copy/move operation and Windows operation besides seeing a dialog box fly past your eyes when using the FreeCommander setting?
I know using the FCXE copy/move with dialog function allows you to interact with this dialog box. Also, on the splitter bar, why doesn't the copy/move with dialog command use the same icon as the copy/move command? Having the arrows that switch direction depending on what pane is active is very helpful. These arrows are missing in the copy/move with dialog command.

Re: File Operations FC vs. Windows
Could you post a screenshot, please? Which options are you using? Perhaps a new topic would be better...These arrows are missing in the copy/move with dialog command.
Re: File Operations FC vs. Windows
Thanks Dreamer for your reply. I'll post a snap shot once I get back to work on Monday. I'm still using 2009b at home on my XP computer. However, you can see what I'm talking about with the different icons by just selecting on your splitter bar settings the "copy with dialog" command as opposed to just the copy command. The copy command has an arrow that changes direction depending on what pane is active, the copy with dialog command doesn't have that arrow.
The options I'm using for the file/folder operations is all FreeCommander, not Windows. I guess I didn't start a new topic because I'm still trying to figure out the real differences between the FreeCommander operation and the Windows operation. I totally understand the difference when you select the copy/move with dialog option because you get that dialog box which you don't get with Windows. However, if you select just the copy command you don't get a dialog in either FC or Windows, so what's the difference?

Re: File Operations FC vs. Windows
OK, now I see it, the arrow is missing.
If you use Ctrl+C, Win operation is used, FC operation is not implemented yet, this way you should see the dialog - but not a confirmation dialog, so perhaps for small files you didn't see it.
If you use Copy without dialog and FC operation, then use can see the FC dialog with pause option and others, unless you are using auto minimize option, this way the dialog in minimized in taskbar, but use can restore it anytime.
For any option, test it with large files and watch the taskbar.
Could you explain the "copy command" please? You mean Ctrl+C, or Copy to other side without dialog?if you select just the copy command you don't get a dialog in either FC or Windows, so what's the difference?

Re: File Operations FC vs. Windows
Thank you for your response. The copy command that I'm referring to is the copy command without dialog. So what's the difference between the copy command without dialog and the windows copy command?
Do you think Marek will change the icon for the copy/move with dialog to show the arrows?
I'm not using the auto minimize option and I'm not seeing this dialog. I'm sure it's because the operation is so fast and that's the dialog box I see fly past my eyes. So, if I'm understanding things correctly, copying a large set of files in the FC operation mode and using the copy without dialog will still show a dialog, but it doesn't wait for my input unless I interrupt the operation with the pause command or others, as you stated above. OK, I think I'm understanding how this works. If you use Copy without dialog and FC operation, then use can see the FC dialog with pause option and others
Do you think Marek will change the icon for the copy/move with dialog to show the arrows?
