Main menu - Favorites


In FreeCommander frequently used folders can be added as favorites to a favorite tree.

A favorite consists of:

  • a folder to be opened in the active panel
  • (if defined) an additional folder to be opened in the inactive panel
  • (if defined) a shortcut to open the favorite directly.

A favorite can be opened:

  • from the main menu item "Favorites"
  • with the assigned shortcut
  • from the favorites tree

The main menu item "Favorites" offers the following commands:


Open favorite

The top menu items of the main menu item "Favorites" are a hierarchical list of defined favorites tree items.

  • Categories
    Clicking a category (the menu item is preceded by ) opens a sub menu with the items of the clicked category.
  • Folder
    Clicking a favorite folder (the menu item is preceded by ) opens the folder (defined in the field "Active panel" of the clicked favorite) in the active tab of the active panel. If in the field "Inactive panel" a folder is defined, it is additionally opened in the active tab of the inactive panel.
  • File

Clicking a favorite file (the menu item is preceded by ) opens the folder (defined in the field "Active panel" of the clicked favorite) in the active tab of the active panel and highlights the favorite file. If in the field "Inactive panel" a folder is defined, it is additionally opened in the active tab of the inactive panel.

Favorites - add active panel folder

Activating the menu item "Favorites - add active panel folder" or the shortcut "Shift+Ctrl+V" adds a new favorite to the list of favorites (if the favorites tree is open: the new favorite is added to the selected category). The favorite is named like the current folder in the active panel. The field "Active panel" holds the path of the current folder in the active panel.

Activating the menu item "Favorites - add active and inactive panel folder" adds a new favorite to the list of favorites (if the favorites tree is open: the new favorite is added to the selected category). The favorite is named like the current folder in the active panel. The field "Active panel" holds the path of the current folder in the active panel. The field "Inactive panel" holds the path of the current folder in the inactive panel.

Favorites - add selected

Activating the menu item "Favorites - add selected" adds all items (files and folders) selected in the active panel separately to the list of favorites (if the favorites tree is open: the new favorites are added to the selected category).
