Opening a text file from zip

#1 Post by rangabhupal » 22.07.2013, 13:16

Hi All,

I zip all my code into current_date.zip everyday and whenever I have a need, I used to open zip and extract the same.

When I was using FC old version, it gave me a luxary to open the file without extracting. I used F4 button to open the file in Notepad++.

Recently, i have downloaded latest version. Whenever i tried to open a file (code) from zip using F4 (editor is configured as Notepad++ for '*'). Nothing is being opened in Notepad++.

Please let me know, if anyone faced the same problem and have a fix for this.

thanks to you all.

No problem with my FCXE v629.
F4 opens a txt-file in a zip-file with PSPad (my default editor).

Do you use fcZip as your default zip-(wcx)-plugin?
(settings > archiver plugins > wcx)

Can't confirm either in 630 (not released yet), pspad and total7zip or fczip plugins.

Which version are you using? "Recent" is not enough, since there is a preview version, beta testers version and even test - non-released version.

Please read this topic for more info:

• Report the FreeCommander version and operation system. E.g. "FreeCommander 629, Windows 7 SP1 64-bit".

I have been using version v630 (windows 7 64 bit) and don't have any customization over zip and using fcZip which is default.

Are you sure? Version 630 is not released yet, do you have it from Marek (author) for testing??

In your settings, under "Programs" where you designated Notepad++ as your editor,

1. Make sure it's filter box is checked.
2. Make sure you'ave added a parameter - like: %ActivItem% - it shouldn't be
3. Make sure the path is correct.
4. Make sure you don't have some other application in the list that should work *before* it.
5. Make sure you aren't mistaken viewer and editor in the tabs... (it's possible!)

I have given Notepad++ path properly and parameter is %ActivSel%. Non zip files are opening when I press F4 without having any problems. I have been trying the same way from a Zip.

As mentioned, in older version 2009.02b this feature is working fine.

Regarding v630, I got it from Marek for testing one bug.

Maybe some problem with your TEMP path.
Go to "Settings - Start program: Start/TEMP folder" and define your own temp folder for FC.

You could show us the screenshot with the editor definition "Settings - Programs - Editors".
