Worm.Opnis in fcSFj.bin?

#1 Post by DieterJ » 30.08.2009, 12:18

PC-Tools Antivirus meldet Worm.Opnis als Bedrohung im FreeComander\fcSFj.bin und im FC-Setup.exe.
Ist das eine wirklich eine Bedrohung?

I don't speak German, but there is definitely no virus in the FreCommander. Try to re-download FreeCommander and scan your computer for viruses and spyware.

False hit fcSFj.bin?

#3 Post by iemand » 08.09.2009, 07:34

I’m experiencing the same with PC-Tools Anti-virus. It’s giving a worm.opnis detection on fcSFj.bin ( zip, portable, u3 downloads).

I’m thinking of a false positive. Maybe a suggestion to contact PC-Tools concerning the issue.

Once upon a time, my boss accused me of downloading malware.

Something to the effect of "maybe you should check those files you've downloaded off of the web" (Who knows what his deal was - I think he thought I was trying to hack them or something...).

Anyway, turns out upon confronting him over this statement, that he was getting a positive hit on one of the files in the FreeCommander zip file. (Again, don't ask how he was getting it, loooong story.)

I have no idea which file it was, and I have no idea which AV he was using.

But, I never have gotten a hit with AVG Free.

Just my 0.02$

What is cSFj.bin?

#5 Post by nickoftime » 13.09.2009, 17:53

First off, I would like to say that this is the BEST freeware program available. I have been using it for over two years (as a portable app) and it is by far the FM out there.

I had the same problem with PCTools reporting it as a virus. I deleted the file and the application has been working just fine. My questions are:

What is cSFj.bin?
What's it's purpose?
What features will I loose by deleting it?

Cheers,

Nick

Hi Nick,

sorry for the late answer. I am straight back from the vacation :).

1. What is cSFj.bin?
fcSFJ.bin -> FreeCommander self joiner

2. What's it's purpose?
Join the chunk files to original file - if you checked the option "Create EXE" for the split file function.

3. What features will I loose by deleting it?
You can not create self joined files.

The file is of course cleen.
