Colour coding of files by extension is one of the plethora of FC features that I find really great. However, in practice the use of a lot of different text colours for different filetypes gets confusing because then some of the colours look pretty similar to each other. For this reason some of my much used filetypes remain currently not colour coded, so that the colours that I do use are able to be really distinct from each other.
It would be greatly helpful, therefore, if I could also set a background colour for each filetype. I'd probably then use a colour background for all my image and sound files, with foreground colours then distinguishing the individual filetypes by extension. In that respect I'd be using background colour like a shift key on a keyboard, to double (or indeed treble if necessary) the number of options without having to have a multitude of foreground colours that were confusingly similar to each other.
