Two Questions From a New User...

#1 Post by cinepro » 17.06.2009, 06:15

Hello. I'm trying to switch to FreeCommander after using ExplorerPlus for several years. There is one area of functionality I can't seem to find on FreeCommander, but assume it must be in there:

Is it possible to create a "launchbar" where I can put buttons for my favorite programs, files and folders? Ideally, I'd like to be able to drag files onto a program on the launchbar and have that file open with that program.

(Edit to add: I've found the "Favorite Tools Toolbar", and I've added a program to it, but I don't see it anywhere on the main screen. Is there a tutorial for using this anywhere?)

Second, I've noticed that when I open a drive, it takes me to the last folder I was viewing in that drive. Is there a way to have it default to the root folder of each drive?

Thanks for any info you can offer.

Hi, cinepro
I made a custom toolbar to launch all my favorite applications, and another to hold some frequently-used FreeCommander commands (I use hotkeys for my most-used commands)

I made a post a little while back about custom toolbars (maybe I will try to write a small tutorial)

If you don't see your "Favorites" custom toolbar on screen, go to menu Extras, Favorite Tools, Edit. Then at the bottom of the dialog, make sure that "Toolbar Visible" is checked.

One thing that might help you is the updated *French* version of the help file.
http://www.freecommander.com/fc_languages.htm

If you don't speak French, do what I did, and use Google Translator (or other translation tool) to get a good idea of what the help file says.
The old 2006 versions of help files are pretty useless now, there are so many new features in 3 years!
