Compare difficulties Alt-V

#1 Post by Alistair George » 18.05.2009, 04:18

After Alt-V Messagebox: the files in the source and target folder are identical.

Had selected My Music directory, then another directory with much of the contents of the compared directory. But when compare get nothing highlighted. Would have expected the missing folders and files to be highlighted or am I expecting too much??

Please check the options in Settings > Compare folders. Perhaps different files are not highlighted because they are hidden. Make sure the option "Show hidden files" and "Show system files" are enabled in Settings > View.

No this is not the case. Incidentally those options are under Settings not Settings/Compare folders.
If seems like its making no attempt to compare folder contents, nor does it highlight that a folder is missing off the other directory. Very odd, because I felt it used to work. Version 2009.02

Have you tried this with a new "freecommander.ini"?
(rename the existing file while FC is closed, so that FC builds a new one on next start)

Is there nothing anyone can contribute to this thread? Is everyone else finding that it compares folders and files OK?

The function "compare" compares files from active and inactive window
(see help > keyboard shortcuts), so only different files (no folders) will be highlighted.
This works on my computer.

Try the function "synchronize" if you want to get the differences include subfolders.

Thanks Ralph. Thats a pity. I would like to be able to quickly and easily compare folders including contents using only filesize/name conventions; pretty easy really to impliment. I have the competency to roll my own, but not the time unfortunately. Its a pity that FC does not do this as its a simple modification within a search algorithm to achieve this result.
Cheers,
Al.
