Enable / disable Status bar

Enable / disable Status bar

Is it possible to disable (turn off) the status bar?

Because I find that browsing network drives is very slow (auto-refresh is off), and I'm guessing it's because the status bar is working out Free space on the drive and other stuff to display in the status bar.
