FC Crashes and End Process Won't Work

#1 Post by kevro2000 » 29.11.2008, 21:20

What I'm Using:
FC 2008.06c
Vista 64 bit
The Description
I've been using FC for quite awhile and I've had this problem with 06a, as well. I'm not able to duplicate this and I can't remember what I did to make this happen. It has happened nearly every time I've had FC open for more than 20 minutes. I'll perform some sort of operation and then FC comes to a halt. (I'm thinking I was doing a copy and paste).
So, then, when I try to close it after it crashes, nothing happens. The FC window just sits there with no response. Doing a right-click from the task bar does absolutely nothing. Here's the clencher. If I open the task manager, and end process or end process tree, I get the confirmation prompt, but still nothing happens.
Does anyone know how I can fix this or is it an FC problem? I have another similar program called xplorer2 (free version). It does the same thing. Exactly. The only way I've been able to get rid of the stuck program is to reboot the PC.

Thanks,
Kevin

I don't know the solution of your problem, but if a program crashes it's normal that it can't react on the close-button because it's dead.
Also, the windows taskmanager often can't close a completely crashed thread (I hoped Vista 64bit might be a more stable OS, but as I see, it's not)

On 32bit Vista I'm using DTaskManager http://dimio.altervista.org/eng/ because it has a "kill process routine" which works very well.
I don't know if it's running under 64bit.

This may also be the problem with your programs because they aren't 64bit-programs but try to use 64bit-OS-routines.

I thought FC was 64 bit... if not, you're right, that may very well be the problem. I do think this is the most stable OS, though. When FC crashes, I can still work and do other things, nothing else is affected. It just drives me crazy having such a cool proggy and it hang up like that.

I'll take a look at DIMIO's and see if it's 64 bit compatible.

Thanks,
K
