Is it possible to switch the splitter on and off easily, like the function key bar? I could not find a keyboard shortcut or a checkbox in the Settings ....

Is it possible to switch the splitter on and off easily?
If it is a single pane as in explorer you are after then ctrl+shift+F1 will show the inactive pane and ctrl+shift+F3 will show the active pane. Ctrl+shift+F2 will return FC to 50% dual pane.
Note that this does not actually turn the splitter off only hides it to either side of the screen.
