Win 11 Pro 24H2
I have started running on a replacement machine, and now when I go to Tools<Backup all settings, I get an error "the system cannot find the file specified". I have not previously encountered this error. The settings have not changed from the old system, which did not have this problem. The only other thing that has changed is the edit of freecommander.ini in regard to the recent W11 update which has caused problems with the move/copy progress box.
The precise error message is "Backup settings: Error: 0x80070002 The system cannot find the file specified".
I am puzzled, as the Settings folder contains backups as recent as 19th June 2025. I presume these are the exit backups, but another fact is that I have run FC and exited from it several times since that date, yet there are no more recent backups. I have compared the contents of the 19th June backup with the .ini and other files in the Settings folder, and there is no mismatch i.e. all files are present in folder and backup.

Re: Manual backup of settings error
Thanks for your reply.
I've been running the installer versions of FC for years, but I see that the version was 932. Going to Donor Downloads, I find that the latest of both versions is 933. I therefore downloaded and ran the 933 installer. This appears at first sight to have solved the problem, as I no longer see an error and the backup is correctly made into the Settings subdirectory. So a fresh install seems to have fixed it.
I have had this machine running for only a couple of days, and I'm still in the process of debloating and fixing Windows settings. There are also some browser and other settings which need to be changed back to make things work properly. I think that it may be a good plan to save the settings to somewhere else. I already do this for other applications (photo pp, archivers, etc.) and I see no reason why FC should not be included.
