PDF opens new window on Quick View

On my machine, Quick view opens most files in second pane as expected. With pdf files it will only open them in an external window. Single click opens new window and shows pdf file. The second pane inside FC is blank. With a .doc or .txt, Quick View opens the file inside FC in the second pane-no external window. Double click opens .doc or .txt in external window. It used to open pdf files in the second pane before I switched to Foxit, decided I didn't like Foxit's behavior inside FC and replaced it with Adobe reader. Now it wont show the quick view with pdf's.

I have uninstalled FC and Foxit, reinstalled FC still same behavior. Is there a settings file that is not removed during uninstall?

Is there any way to repair this, or is FC damaged forever on this machine?
