3) I think alf5000 mean that selecting is not the same - when I use the new method, when I select few items and then change direction - while still holding the mouse button, it doesn't deselect items, but if I release the button and then click and move in opposite direction, then it works, but it only deselect items, no matter if they were selected before.

All this is different to Win method, but I'm not sure if it's a bug.

@Dreamer: thanks for clarifying, this was exactly what I meant.
releasing the button and re-pressing it is very unusual behavior for selection/deselection (compared to e.g. Excel, Word, LibreOffice, WinExplorer, FastStone, ...)

I would be glad to always see the "selection square" when drag-selecting items - it is helpful
