Custom Keyboard Shortcuts not Permanent?

#1 Post by AEN007 » 25.09.2009, 11:57

25September2009

Greetings.

Today I have been trying out FC & trying to customize keyboard shortcuts.
The changes I make are lost when I close/reopen FC.
It is possible to save the fc_shortcuts.txt file,
but I don't see any way to load the contents.
I would like for the customizations "to stick" and
would like to be able to export them &
then load them on my other two XP laptops.

Any helpful replies/insights appreciated.
Thank you.
Regards,
AEN

Hi,

the keyboard shortcuts are saved in the file "freecommander.shc" at the same location of your "freecommander.ini".

Maybe there are some writing permissions to that folder.

There is a guide of customizing FC including shortcuts from Granny: http://forum.freecommander.com/viewtopic.php?t=2081

Greetings.
Thanks for the reply.
I'm using the portable version, and
there is no freecommander.shc file in the FC directory.
Maybe the portable version doesn't create freecommander.shc?

Any helpful replies/insights appreciated.
Thank you.

There is no "freecommander.shc" until a personal shortcut is saved.

From the FAQ...

I have defined new shortcuts, but when I save the settings and restart FreeCommander, the new shortcuts are not saved, why?
In the "Define shortcuts" dialog window you should press the Assign button and then also the Save button, if you want to save the shortcuts permanently.

Greetings.
Thanks for the replies/solution.

I've gone further with customizing FC.
The "Favorites" presents a slight hotkey problem.
FC assigns the "Favorites" locations Ctrl-Shift-1, C-S-2 & etc. hotkeys.
I already have C-S-1, C-S-2, C-S-3 assigned to AutoHotKey scripts.
I've been assigning FC hotkeys to match
the x² & 2xEx hotkeys - trying to make life simpler ...
My x² & 2xEx "Favorites" hotkeys are Ctrl-1, Ctrl-2 & etc ...
x² allows the users to assign those hotkeys.
Is it (or would it be in the future) possible for users to (re-)assign these hotkeys?

I also cannot find a way to move between the tree & the tabs
when the tree is visible (other than with a mouse click).
Isn't there someway to use the keyboard
to move between the tree & the tabs?
I don't see that users can assign a hotkey for that either.
Does FC require a separate tree for each pane?
It would optimize the GUI if users could have
one tree & two panes (like with x² & 2xEx).

I've used the AHK "WinSet, Region" feature to (somewhat) customize
the FC GUI along the lines of my separate "Feature Request" post.

I hope FreeCommander will fix the Thumbnails view bug that has been posted.

Any helpful replies/insights appreciated.
Thank you.

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but Shift + Tab toggles the cursor focus back and forth between the Tree and the File List in the current tab.

if you have a file or folder selected in the File List, press Shift + Tab to move the cursor focus to that item's parent folder in the Tree pane, then use arrow keys to navigate to other folders or sub-folders. Then Shift + Tab again to jump to the File List for the newly selected folder.

You can use Ctrl + Tab to jump to other tabs in the current pane.

It would optimize the GUI if users could have
one tree & two panes (like with x² & 2xEx).
coming in next version, according to the screenshots Marek posted.
I'm drooling over those ......
