Desktop Snapshot not usefull

#1 Post by gargandua » 24.08.2009, 08:03

Comparing to Snipping Tool in Windows VIsta, the FC Desktop Snapshot under Extras is quite unnecessar. I would suggest that in the next version it would be abolished or further developed so it can be an alternative to Vista Snippings

Desktop Snapshot (should be) simple request

#2 Post by shockers_jm » 04.11.2009, 01:47

I do like many other snapshot programs (ScreenHunter), but can find Desktop Snapshot very useful when introducing to new people REAL file managers (I do like another better) and integrating other useful utilities and screenshot programs. If they can be in a ALL-IN-ONE like FC+my integrated stuff, that's fewer things to install and simpler to teach people.

I do like ScreenHunter because it can save both to clipboard and to a directory location AND most importantly user-defined filename. But it has some problems I won't go into detail.

What would fix some of these problems are thinggs that should be a snap for FC. First, allow selecting BOTH save to clipboard and save to file. Second (and no one else does), allow saving to directory I define and filename I define that can include DOS environment variables.

Specifically, allow me to save to any directory name using environment variables AND optionally allow the directories to be created if they don't exist.

K:\screenshots\%USERNAME%\%COMPUTERNAME%\

And for the filename, let US define the name with lots of flexibility:

%USERNAME%_%COMPUTERNAME%_%DATE%_%TIME%.png

where we get to decide the format of the date and time. Obviously yyyymmdd and hhmmss allows for auto-sorting in FC. But allow us to define date how others may want, eg, yyyy-mm-dd_hh.mm.ss. The filename part another screenshot program can already do.

So for my use, I'd like to configured once and place in a read-only network location so that multiple people can log in on multiple PCs, but if they do a desktop snapshot, they all go to the same network location, but people can easily find their screen shots, firhter broken down by PC (and date if they wish).

This would be good for support personnel who can have people snapshot their problems, and the support personnel can then go to one place to look at what they are complaining about.

Easy, right?

Thanks, KW.
