In terms of software development for the masses, from this user's perspective, I recognize that not every user will perceive its benefits in the same manner:
only in the past 6-months, to a year have I even begun to take advantage of the Favorite folders feature-- likely due to my own tendency to lock a particular set-of-tabs for both the Left and Right panes (those tabs being, in effect, my favorites). Until my discovery, moments ago, I've been adding Favorites in the following manner:
- Click "Favorite Folder" icon
Select "Add Favorite"
Click "Favorite Folder" icon
Select "Edit"
Locate that new Favorite addition
Add into the "Inactive" folder field, the "other" open folder-- as to save a sort-of Layout, but only for those two folders (vs an actual "Custom Layout", wherein the entire Dual-Pane view is preserved).
Rename the "title", such that on future Favorite Folder selection, I know what TWO panes will appear.
Proceeding to my Step #4 (as shown above), I pondered what might be the best folder to add as a secondary folder, to fill the available Active, or Inactive favorite-folder-field (as in Step #6, above). It occurred to me, however, that for this particular action, my productivity will likely be made more efficient-- if clicking the Favorite opens only the designated image repository-- only by NOT add a second folder. Looking ahead, I Edited the Favorite, so the repository would open as the Inactive pane, as doing so should allow me to move images to that desired location, easily, no matter what folder I might currently browse in the Active pane.
At this moment, I realized an entirely new potential for the Favorites (though, perhaps it is the intended use for Favorite Folders; perhaps I've misunderstood all the while). As well, I thought of an enhancement to the existing Action of adding Favorite Folders, which follows as I imagine it:
- Select Add Favorite Folder
[currently] the Add "Title" field appears
Two checkbox controls appear, allowing the user to select "Active" or "Inactive" for the desired Favorite to appear, on its recall.
A secondary prompt might also appear (or be a part of the previous), wherein the user might add a Favorite to appear, as part of a Favorite group (see Step #6, list above).
Sorry so much text. I wish I could have explained with fewer.
Best regards. As always, thanks for FreeCommander. I look forward to the forthcoming version.
