FC not showing files in some folder
FC not showing files in some folder
I'm using FC 2009.02 on a Vista machine.
For some reason FC does not always show the files in a directory. Some directories work fine, others don't. The failing directory show no files under the Details, List, Small Icon or Large Icon views but will show the files when Thumbnail view is selected. The directories being examined are standard data directories, not system, hidden, etc.
I've searched the forums and dug through the settings but cannot figure out what i might have set wrong. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Ski

Strange, I'm using Vista 32 bit all the time, I didn't have such a problem. Some files with unicode characters are inaccessible, but they are visible and it's a known issue.
Have you tried to run FC with default settings?

I have not changed settings from the defaultDreamer wrote:Strange, I'm using Vista 32 bit all the time, I didn't have such a problem. Some files with unicode characters are inaccessible, but they are visible and it's a known issue.

I tried to run the /N /NewIni=FreeCommanderTest.ini /NoPlugins /Lng=English but I have no idea of how to run it on my PC - are there more complete instructions available?

Also,
I tought I'd just manually rename the current .ini but I can't seem to locate any .ini files that appear to be associated with FC. Where might they be?

The easiest way to run FC with the test ini is to create a shortcut to FC on your desktop. Name it FC-new ini or something like that. Then right-click it and chose Properties. Paste /N /NewIni=FreeCommanderTest.ini /NoPlugins /Lng=English after the file path in the "Target" field, with a space between, like this:
"C:\Program Files\freeCommander\FreeCommander.exe" /N /NewIni=FreeCommanderTest.ini /NoPlugins /Lng=English
Close Free Commander and double-click the new shortcut.
Use whatever Vista calls finding files to search for files named freeCommander.ini
I'll be more helpful after a few more forays into the Vista jungle.

You can get the current path to "freecommander.ini" with
Help >>> Info >>> look at "Path info:
The path to the ini is defined under
Extras >>> Settings >>> Start program >>> Config file
Normally it's the installation-folder for all users.
With Vista there is the problem with UAC (UserAccessControl) to all files and folders in "programs".
So it's better and safer (not for freecommander.ini, but in general to prevent program-files to be modified by virus without admin-rights) to save the freecommander.ini in the user-specific "application data"-folder.
To do so, the admin has to install FC, define the settings "specific for user - "application data"-folder, so that every user has his own INI.
The path to this HIDDEN folder in Vista is:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\FreeCommander-2009-02
