Updated help file?

#1 Post by Anthony A » 03.03.2009, 06:33

Is there an updated help file available? The one available for download looks like it's from 2005 which makes it way too out dated to useful.

I would not expect a updated help file any time soon as 2009.2 is to be the last version in the current stream.

The best way to find out stuff is search the forums then ask a question.

Considering that the help file for the current version of Free Commander has not been updated in 4 years it's highly unlikely the help file for the new version will be properly maintained either. Too bad because Free Commander is excellent but the lack of an updated help file really reflects badly on the program.

I understand about time constraints but IMO keeping the help file up to date is more important than updating the program. What point is a program update if you don't explain how to use the new features? Searching the forums and trying to piece together a bunch of info into a logical order to figure out how to use the program is not acceptable.

The german, french and czech help-file are up to date for v2008.06c and I remember that Marek asked for help in translation long ago, but nobody in the wide english-speaking neighborhood felt accosted, but a lot of people asked for making FC open source.

This is not a commercial product, its free!
I know, its much easier to get things done by others than to do it by himself, but I think it might help to offer assistance in translating parts of the help-file (like some guys did it for proofreading the german help).
Maybe this make others brave to offer also their help.

Update of the english help files.

#5 Post by Gerhard » 13.03.2009, 13:04

Hi to all!

I started some time ago to bring the English help files up to date. But i had to stop in the middle of the work because of some job related issues.

Translating and checking all pages of the English translation is a time consuming task. And my new job is taking all this time at the moment.

As soon as i have time to continue, i will do so!! ;-) In the meantime i hope someone else out there will help to translate parts of it!!

If everyone translates one or two pages its done much quicker!!! ;-)

I will try to keep you informed about the progress of the help files!
