copy-move using windows, Windows dialog box not showing everytime UPDATED-FIXED

#1 Post by Yesterday » 26.05.2025, 04:32

using copy move use windows, windows dialog pops up and you watch the green line move left to right
I had a problem with my graphic driver and thought that, that was the problem but not so.
If I close and re-open FC windows dialog show's up, if i copy-move again it does not show up, but it does copy or move the files or folders.
If i close FC again and open and do a copy or move windows dialog shows up again, strange behavior
anyone else, just one windows computer in the world having this problem

windows 11 FC 931-64bit
reinstalled windows today same problem

So it took a day or so but windows updated, and update KB5058411 is the cause to the problem
if you uninstall that update you should be fine, and you will need to hide that update so Microsoft does not continue to install it
Full Name Cumulative update for windows 11 version 24h2 for x64 based system KB5058411

The problem with the copy dialog occurs on some PCs after Windows Update.
Currently the solution is to use the option "Use FreeCommander".

A workaround for the Windows bug is implemented in FreeCommander Build 932.
How to use the workaround:
- start build 932
- close the program
- open freecommander.ini with the text editor and change the following lines to the values:

Code: Select all

WinExecutorCopyMoveIShellOperation=1
WinExecutorProgressDlgNoMinimize=1
- save the changes and start the program again
The progress dialog has no minimize button and it is old UI.
You can remove the lines from the freecommander.ini if the Microsoft provide some fix for the problem.

Do you know which update (KB #)?

you might want to use the solution Marek wrote, this way you get the update and don't have to fight with microsoft.

Thanks. First, please let me apologize for asking for the KB #. You clearly wrote it in your original message, but I didn't recall reading it. It appears my mind was partially occupied with something else.

Second, why is your recommendation to use the workaround Marek has provided instead of using the FreeCommander method for file operations? Interested to learn your reasoning.

The topic was and is windows is broke, not which method anyone should you.
Reading this topic just assumes anyone using windows method is updated with a solution
If you use FC method and are a windows computer user, you still need to know that windows update has more problems then just a copy-move dialog box.
In the Web talk I have read that a solution has been made and that kb5058411 is no longer available in any updates, but this is not confirmed by microsoft that i know, but i know that on my own computer i can't download it anymore.
I also know that i can now use windows copy-move without using FC 932 solution, so on my computer it seems to be working, and it might be, must be on all.
