Take the lead and show junction targets

#1 Post by Free4all » 22.01.2025, 12:02

One of the unfortunate limits of Windows File Explorer, is that it still does not show targets for junctions. Even manually going into the Properties dialog box for the folder does not show the correct information (really, Microsoft?).

The user is forced to go into PowerShell or a command (cmd) shell to find this basic and essential information.

How about FreeCommander take the lead and show targets for junctions?

I can think of 3 ways to accomplish this:

1. An unobtrusive way of doing this will be to make available a field to show this important information in the status bar.

2. Adding an available file pane column (with auto-width) for this functionality can be an additional way.

3. Finally, showing the destination in the tree pane is a third way, although I think it will require horizontal scrolling in many cases. This final technique was proposed 9 years ago https://freecommander.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=22548.

Have you tried Shift+Enter (Attributes/Timestamp) - field "Target"?

Thank you Karol! I would have never thought to look in that dialog box, as its function is quite different... but sure enough, there it is! It's a step in the right direction as compared Windows, but not very visible or discoverable. Hopefully Marek can at least make it available in the Status Bar, where I think it will be most useful.
