Gridlines - not change color, but style?

I believe the issue of changing the color of gridlines has been mentioned several times over the years, with no resolution.

Would it be possible to implement alternative styles of lines, even if the color can not be changed?
For example ...
____________________ as appears at present, solid continuous black line
............................. dotted line
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ dashed line
plus combinations of these and others.
