Issue with error pop-up and minimize to system tray.

#1 Post by Primus » 06.10.2023, 12:10

Hello Marek,
This looks to be an issue due to some conflicting features. I've suggested the possible solution towards the end. So here goes :

Platform :
1. Windows7 Professional, 64 bit
2. FreeCommander XE 2023 Build 880 32-bit public

Description :
  • When I launch Free Commander (FC), I get an error pop-up as Link : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZsfFDy ... sp=sharing
That's because, I didn't close FC before Windows shutdown.
I use a setting of FC where, it minimizes to System Tray. So obviously generally one tends to forget to close FC before shutting down the system and that results in this issue.
Issue No. 1 :
A dialog box popping-up.
Once that pop-up appears (which feels like a nag), we need to click on the OK button. Else it doesn't disappear.

Issue No. 2 :
After we click on the "OK" button, the user has to AGAIN LAUNCH FC because, FC just closes.

Issue No. 3 :
Now when FC starts, it starts minimized to the System Tray as an icon, which actually should start maximized.
So, now the user has to again click on the tray icon to see the FC winodw.

The desired/suggested behavior would be :
1. When Windows7 shutdown command is issued, FC should AUTOMATICALLY AND GRACEFULLY shutdown.
2. Just in case FC was not shutdown gracefully (for some reason), just timed-popup, that automatically disappears on its own should be displayed OR no pop-up the dialog box.
3. Silently and automatically do the data recovery (if at all) and successfully launch FC MAXIMIZED.

Thanks

The caption of the message say, it is not from FreeCommander, it is from PortableApps.Launcher.
You could simply try the portable ZiP version https://freecommander.com/downloads/Fre ... rtable.zip

The issue of minimizing to system tray has been fixed.
However when the tray icon is clicked, the FC Windows is restored but not maximized : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VeVxLV ... sp=sharing
I'd think/request that the FC window should be maximized.

To understand this, here is the use case :
1. The file manager is one of the most used utilities and is used off and on.
2. So, it should be running as long as the system is on, and should be easily launched.
3. That is where the tray icon click, where it is toggled comes into play, which currently works OK.
4. Also, I've made it to auto start during boot and enabled the setting of "start minimized". So it is seen in the system tray when the system is booted.
5. However, when the tray icon is clicked, the window is restored but not maximized (as seen in the screenshot I've shared)
6. Since manipulating files requires lots of window place, I'd think, the FC window should be maximized when the tray icon is clicked.

Possible solutions :
1. When clicked on the system tray icon, show the FC window maximized OR
2. Add a another menu item to right-click of the system tray icon and "Show Maximized" and if clicked, then show FC window maximized.

Thank You
