Hello, I see there was a suggestion to implement Branch View in Free commmander since 2008, was this implemented?

Yes, I started using FreeCommander a few weeks ago with latest version. There is a branch view or tree view as many people lable it.
You can have it as sidebar or even in a tab. There is a button for it to add tree view to active window.
Try it. FreeCommander is a great tool. I don't want to miss it, since I'm working with it. Before I had Total Commander, also a great alternative to the poor featured explorer. However, to me FreeCommander is more intuitive, modern looking and better.

Have I misunderstood "branch view"? Isn't it the same as tree view?

No, it isn't
Branch view shows all files in a tree
Tree view shows the dirs as a tree of dirs as the name says.
