Improve selection via Ctrl & Shift in NC mode

#1 Post by harl windwolf » 10.09.2008, 17:17

To me, the basic advantage of the NC mode is that I can press the space bar to select objects.
So I would like to see a few thing as separate options when in NC mode and Details view (probably works for other views as well):

1. One option that would allow me to have the currently selected object (that which is currently 'focused') being included in a selection made by pressing the Ctrl key and clicking on another object. Exception: when there's already an object selected (not just focused), so this is just for selecting the first two objects in one step, as it is when not in NC mode.

2. One that would allow me to use Ctrl and Shift at the same time to select adjacent as well as non-adjacent objects at the same time, as it is when not in NC mode.

3. One that would allow to re-enable multiple adjacent objects being selectable by drawing a rectangle, as it is when not in NC mode. I know I can press Shift and do that, so this would just be kind of an accessibility option.

4. Something like Shift + Space bar for selecting multiple adjacent objects would be nice, too (this would require the selection to remember the sequence of the selected objects, if it doesn't already do that anyway).

5. One option that prevents currently selected objects from being deselected when clicking anywhere. I know I can press Alt to have that effect, so this would be kind of a reverse of that (objects never getting deselected except they were only 'focused' or Alt is pressed).

6. One that enables remembering the selection in a directory beyond changing the directory in the same tab, so that returning to that same directory would automatically re-select the same objects (maybe even tab- and/or panel-independent, optionally of course).

7. One that would disable the size determination of folders when being selected. (And, as an optional alternative to that, another option that remembers any folder's size beyond changing the directory, while sizes still get determined when objects get selected though the general 'Size of folders' option is off. The latter really needing a checkmark in the Folder menu when enabled by the way.)

Please let me know what you think of these or if they can already be done in another way or if anything is unclear.

7. You can use Insert. Perhaps it should be possible to change also these shortcuts (Insert and Space).

When I want to use "Insert" as a new shortcut "Not assigned" is below, but it's already assigned to "select item", so perhaps it's a (little) bug?
