Just installed FreeCommander 2008.06 in a XP Pro 2MB RAM computer and I can not open any file. It can be a .exe, .txt .pdf etc file but I always get the same error message:
"Windows cannot access the specidfied device, path or file. You may not have the approriate permissions to access the item."
I can open the file without any problem in Windows Explorer or via xplorer2 lite.

Indeed is fc especially under XP very stable and reliable - i'm using fc and following the discussions here for a quite long time and never heard about such problems.
Have you tried a fresh install plus new download of the perhaps damaged installation file?

The Favorite Folder can set both the active and inactive pane... if you only want the active folder set clear out the inactive field.
