You have it already:
Create a new item and give it a name, no link to a program or file and no icon.
>>> the name is displayed instead of the icon. 4 or 5 letters are displayed in the upper row of the iconplace. If you type "1234 5678" two rows of text are displayed.
Actually, no, no and....no.
1. I "don't have it already." I can create a workaround, but a workaround is not the same as having the feature available.
The difference is this: the workaround takes a regular action button and basically strips it of the ability to act.
By doing this, you get a button that's greyed out/dimmed.
If I had a regular "text" button, it would not be greyed out.
2. There is no ability to have more than 1 row of text. Although I did not ask for it, it does sound like it would be handy.
Regardless, I have tried every which way to force a second row of characters, and it doesn't work.
I tried adding a simple space, inserting a "\n" and a "\t", inserting both "ALT+ENTER" and "CTRL+ENTER" keystrokes, etc.
Nothing worked.
3. Adding an "empty" icon doesn't create a "spacer that's wider than the one currently available." It creates a blank button that's just as wide as the other buttons.
When I say "spacer", I mean something that's maybe 1/4, 1/3 or 1/2 the width of the other normal buttons.
If you think that having no icon would work, you still have the text. If you try to delete the text, FC adds it back in.
So you are stuck with either a blank icon or at least 1 character, and again, both of these create a button that's just as wide as the others.
While I appreciate your reply, I was posting my request with the hopes that I wouldn't
need to use a workaround.
A girl can dream....
