Hey there. Awesome program. I'm trying to find a file manager to replace xplorer2 (just want a change), but I came across a little problem:
I have a folder with LOTS of large-size files in it. It's a bunch of my movie rips in one folder. The folder itself is 43gb in size, with about 50 or so ~700mb files. In FreeCommander if I try and scroll through that folder with the mouse wheel (I'm using the 'Divide Horizontal' option) and click on random files (not opening them, just single-clicking on them), after a couple of clicks/scrolls it gives me a couple seconds of lag before selecting/scrolling the next time. It just hangs for a second or so. I can left-click on the scrollbar and drag the scrollbar without lag all the time, although selecting random files will still lag after a selection or two. Traversing this folder with the arrow keys doesn't seem to give me the lag issue.
I don't have these problems scrolling and selecting in this folder in xplorer2, nor does it happen in any other folder of mine in FreeCommander (although, truth be told, no other folder comes close in size as this one on my HD). I think it's just something with FreeCommander and folders with lots of large-size files. I don't know if it's that I have a lot of large-size files or simply that it's a folder of 43gb of data (in any configuration) that's contributing to the lag. I'm not using any plugins (just what came with the installer) and I'm using WinXP w SP3.
This isn't a terrible problem, and it's perfectly manageable, but I thought I would pass it along since it's probably a circumstance that most of the FC users won't ever encounter.
Scrolling/Selection lags in folders w lots of large files
Just wanted to mention that I disabled the View -> 'Show files tooltip' in the options (the 'for folder too' was already disabled), and my scroll/selection problems went away. I guess that option isn't suitable for big directories with lots of large files, although I don't see what filesize has to do with a mouseover tooltip. I have image directories with thousands of images (albeit smaller in total size than this directory in question) where there weren't any lag whatsoever with the tooltips on.
FWIW, xplorer2 doesn't show tooltips either (at least the way I have my options set it doesn't) so it's something I've already been used to living without.
