New user: two early questions

#1 Post by Walter Eagle » 17.05.2015, 10:21

Hi all

I've just started experimenting with FreeCommander over the past 48-72 hours and its seems an excellent file manager. So much so that it's on its way to replacing my previous file manager. However I have a couple of queries that I can't find answers to either in the software itself, in the help files or here in this forum. I have searched but apologies if I've overlooked a previous question and answer on either of these topics.

(i) Is it possible to control other attributes (bold, italic, underline) of the display font in the file/folder list according to the file extension? I can see how colours can be assigned, but these others would be in the 'nice to have' category.

(ii) When opening a new tab, it appears to duplicate the last active tab i.e. it defaults to the same path\folder view. Is there any way of specifying an alternative view for a new tab. For example I might wish to have all new tabs open at "Computer" view.

Any guidance on these would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Oh well, almost 48 hours and 27 views to date. But no responses.
I guess that means the answers are probably "no" and "no".

Never mind, I think the pros still outweigh the cons.
Maybe, once I become a fully-fledged FC-committed user, I can put these items in to the Features Request forum.

Regards to all.

Yes, I believe the answers are No and No. Both would be nice features, though. :)

Thanks for the response, joby_toss.

In the early days of using any new software, especially one with as many settings and configuration options as Free Commander, I'm always wary of having overlooked a vital check box or selection somewhere.

The other thing I try to ensure is to approach the new software on its own merits. Just because a previous package I used may have had a couple of 'features' that I used doesn't necessarily make them essentials. There may be other ways to skin the cat. Being prepared to unlearn old habits is just as important as being prepared to learn new ones.

Thanks again

Walter
