IMO there should be an X to be able to close the favorites tree (that's more convenient than closing per menu, keys...)

I also vote for this intuitive close-button, but I found a way to do this by action-toolbar-button:

thanks for your reply, sorry it seems that I am a bit confused but also still quite new here. I'll try to nail down in the right forum next time.
Having a toolbar button is a good idea, nevertheless I think that some buttons should be voluntary (if needed) because too many default buttons make things more difficult. This is a great option when often using favorites, thanks for that hint.
