I have been using the old version for years and was happy with there being two panels that work independantly. I really like this new version but when I look at a folder in one panel it also move the cursor in the other panel. How can I get back to the two separate panels ?

Turn off Linked browsing in menu Folder.

I went to folder menu and clicked "linked browsing but it made no difference at all. There is also no indication after clicking it that it has been turned on or off.
Apart from that I used to be able to "toggle the tree display" in both panels but I can no longer do that in the right hand pane.

It has difference. On the top screenshot Linked browsing is turned off, on the bottom - turned on. See

In Tools - Settings - View - Tree - tab General - change 'File system tree' from 'One tree for both panels' to 'One tree per panel'

Perfect thanks. And thank for a great program I have been using for many years.
