I have searched and searched but can find no way to have the desktop folders displayed in Free Commander. I have used other explorers and this was always available. Can the desktop folders be viewed?

Create a new tab, and from within that tab navigate to your desktop folder. I had the same problem, but it is easily resolved. Navigate from C, documents and settings, your user name, desktop.

Have you seen the desktop-icon in the toolbar?

Thanks for the tip, Ralf. This is such a feature-rich program it may take awhile to learn all of its capabilities.
