I have FreeCommander XE Build 685a 64-bit running on a six-core processor with multi-threading (essentially 12 processors) but Free Commander can only do one operation at a time. If I copy or move a file, I get the lovely Windows (v8.1) rotating circle until that operation is finished. I'm wondering if I've missed a setting or set-up parameter that enables multi-threading?

Settings->File/folder operations: select "Use FreeCommander" options. For drag&drop deselect "Use blocking transfer...".

No change. Still only able to do one thing at a time.

Well, I've tried every combination of settings I can think of and it's still unable to multi-task. Any help here would be appreciated.

Which operations you mean?
I can start many e.g. copy/move/delete operations.

Not here. One copy/move/delete operation at a time. I start a copy, the little Windows rotating circle appears, and I'm locked out until that operation completes. I'm using the latest version x64 and it's not doing anything multi-threaded. I have to open Windows Explorer (or Clover) for any extensive move/copy work. Strange, huh?

Do not use the context menu copy/paste.
Use FreeCommander operation F5 for copy.

Of course that brings up a whole new batch of issues:

I did figure out how to move using the two panes. As I try to move the second file, the first one finishes and my "setup" for the second move on the two panes is negated by the program going back to the destination directory. Still not able to complete multiple moves/copies. Is there a solution for this? Thanks again for any ideas.

If you need to copy/move several files/folders to the same location, you can use the file container, copy the folders/files from different locations to this virtual container and then copy/move all at once to desired location.

You can create also the file container tab and use this to quickly add items and copy/move them to desired location.

(I found a bug when moving a folder this way, I'll start a new topic for this)

My usage is just the opposite: I move a number of files from an "incoming" directory/folder and each one goes someplace separate. That's why the context menu (right click menu) worked so well in file explorer. I guess I've got to find another way or another file manager.

Perhaps such option will be added to FC, I guess it was planned, but I don't know when.

Another workaround. Where you move those files, if you move them to the same disk, just different folders, you can move all to one folder on the destination disk and then move the files to desired folders, within the same disk it will be instant.

Oh, that's interesting! That's do-able for sure. I'll give that a try in the morning after the next batch of files show up. Thanks!!

You're welcome.

This way you can use also Ctrl+X / Ctrl+V and drag and drop, since moving within the same disk is instant.

sounds as if you would need some batch processing for an automatic moving of your files into the desired folders...
