Dreamer, that was the direct link. The "voting" is by a synthesis of comments.

It looks the XYplorer is NOT freeware anymore, so it’s off topic.
Dreamer - ha ha! You are such the Forum Moderator at heart. 8)

Yeah! :P

BTW I don't think it's so easy to decide, which FM is the best, for those who need FTP the best one is FreeCommander 2009, for others it's FreeCommander XE, so let's flame begin!

Ah, I'd sacrifice FC2009 for FCXE even without the FTP. FCXE is soooooo much better. It is worth using even if you had to use WinSCP for FTP. Besides, you can work WinSCP into a command button in FCXE anyway (if you're techie enough).

Looks like they concluded their "survey":
http://dottech.org/94083/windows-best-f ... ternatives

FreeCommander (looks like 2009) scored Honorable Metion 2. Q-Dir came first. Q-Dir is nice, but doesn't have nearly the functionality of FreeCommander. I would wager the reviewer never uses it every day. He gave Second place to XPlorer2 Lite - which I don't understand. FC, even the old version, had more features than XPlorer2. And what's with Explorer++? It only has one pane!

1. Q-Dir
2. XPlorer2 Lite
3. Explorer++
4. FreeCommander
5. Multi Commander

The Surveyor said, "The main issue I have with this program is the lack of the preview option." - which I don't understand - FC can already preview anything, and the lister plugins allow for even more. I don't think the Surveyor spent enough time trying out the programs.

But I think XPlorer2 won on account of its commandline functionality, which, true, FC is a bit lacking in that area.

Anyway, they'll have to reconsider things when FCXE is released at version 1.0!!!

Perhaps it's time to change the status of the XE version from beta to stable version, I know there are few features left - to implement, but why not have 2 stable versions - temporary?

BTW I think FC has enough awards - there are even more, I found 2 which are not in this list:

My impression was that the reviewer is not very familiar with file managers, and has not spent a lot of time with them to appreciate the differences. I could be wrong, though.

That site isn't Gizmo's Freeware. The site is a rip-off....

This is the actual article at Gizmo's Freeware.
