Receptor for file:// links

In Thunderbird and some other programs, there is an option to open file:// links with your choice program. I would like to open file:// links in a new tab in FCXE. If I try it right now, it just opens to Desktop. I want to be able to include a file:// link to a UNC path for the convenience of my LAN users.
