synchronise

dear all,
when synchronising two folders, to do a backup of one folder to an external disk, it takes very long to analyse the two folders (each about 40 GB). When the analysis is done, the program asks for moving the changed docs from left to right. When answering synchronise then, I got an error message.
Anyone a suggestion?
