aha now I've found out why it didn't work by deselecting the autosave. The deselection of the autosave does not work.
To use Windows Explorer is bad because system files directories aren't displayed normally.
Therefore I used doublecommander to replace the settings files and restarted Freecommander XE.
Simply stated, it is impossible to do that procedure in Freecommander XE itself (replace the settings files)
ps. Freecommander XE is great !
