Do tabs share the same tree? Zip file as folders?

Hey folks, Marek,

I too am a recent PowerDesk Pro user. I had used it for more than ten years, but after their recent full priced updates (why am I paying for them to recompile for Vista and 7 with no changes to XP's functionality?), I decided to switch. I paid for the ver 7 update no questions asked, but when they introduced ver 8, I search the reviews and found not much had changed, again - certainly not enough to justify paying full price.

I search the net and settled on two possible replacements: UltraExplorer and FreeCommander. After installing and using both side-by-side for a week or so, FreeCommander out performed UltraExplorer hands down.

Thanks Marek for deciding to "play with" your compiler - if this program is the result, please continue.

I spent quite a while searching through this forum looking for answers to my questions, but did not find any. Please forgive me if I am duplicating previous topics.

Now to my questions:
  1. Since there is no separate "My Documents" item in the tree list, I decided to lock a tab on that directory for easy access. When I start FC I have two tabs in the top pane; the C root directory in one, and My Documents in the other.

In the C root tab, the tree and all directories are collapsed. When I click on the My Documents tab, needless to say, the tree expands to the My Document directory. So far, so good. But, when I click back on the C root directory tab, it is now expanded just like the My Documents tab tree's view. Is there a way to have the tree view independent for each tab?
  2. In my search for answers, I did find something close to what I was looking for, but not quite. From what I read, it looks to me like .ZIP (and other supported archive files) ARE supposed to display like directories in the tree view.

If this is correct, that .ZIP files are displayed as folders in the tree pane, did I miss a setting somewhere to enable this feature, because my .ZIP files do not display as folders?
Thank you for your time and a great program - believe it or not, I started a few programs like this in Turbo C++, but I never got nearly this far. If I had, I would like to believe mine would have been similar to FreeCommander.

BTW Marek, did you happen to use the old DOS (IBM's) FC3 (File Commander 3), FreeCommander is remarkably similar?

Troy
I am a unique individual (just like everyone else)!
